TL;DR

Friday Fighters is an unofficial, fan-made 2D fighting game inspired by the Friday films, made by LMG and free to play in the browser. You pick one of 40 fighters from Friday, Next Friday or Friday After Next, choose a sidekick and a neighborhood stage, and win two rounds of 99 seconds. It has Arcade, Story, Versus, Training, CPU Showcase and online matches, and works with a keyboard, a gamepad or a touch screen.

What is Friday Fighters?

It is a free, fan-made fighting game built as a tribute to the Friday films. Every fighter is a character from one of the three movies, and some characters appear more than once in different movie versions, each with its own moves. The game is made by LMG and is not affiliated with New Line Cinema, Warner Bros., Cube Vision or the filmmakers.

If you like this kind of game, Martin: No Filter Fighters is a fan-made fighter in the same spirit, based on the sitcom Martin.

Who can you play as?

There are 40 fighters: 15 from Friday (1995), 14 from Next Friday (2000) and 11 from Friday After Next (2002). They include Craig, Smokey, Deebo, Big Worm, Mr. Jones, Pastor Clever and Joi. Before each fight you also pick a sidekick who runs in to help when you call them.

Every fighter has a Special, a signature move, two Supers, a cinematic Ultra and a throwable item, such as Craig's porch brick or Mr. Jones's flying slipper.

What game modes are there?

  • Arcade: a seven-fight ladder from your fighter's movie, ending with that movie's boss: Deebo, Joker or Robber Santa.
  • Story: all three movies in 12 chapters, with progress saved after every win.
  • VS CPU and Versus: one fight against the computer, or two players on one computer.
  • 2v2 tag team: in Arcade, VS CPU and Versus, each side picks two fighters and tags in and out.
  • Online: Find Online Match pairs you with anyone searching at the same time, or host a private room with a four-letter code. Online is always 1 vs 1.
  • Training and CPU Showcase, where the computer fights itself so you can see each character's moves.

How does a match work?

Each match is best of three rounds, and each round lasts 99 seconds. The meter under your health bar holds up to three bars and fills as you attack, block, take damage and taunt. Spend it on Supers (one bar each) and Ultras. You start every round with one free Ultra; once it starts it cannot be blocked. When you win, press both Super buttons while your opponent stands dazed for a "FINISH 'EM" finisher.

Any tips for beginners?

  • Auto-combo: after a hit lands, keep tapping light punch and the chain climbs on its own up to your Special.
  • Launcher: down + heavy punch pops the opponent into the air; hold up to super jump after them.
  • Dash and backdash: double-tap forward or back. The backdash makes you briefly invulnerable.
  • On Fire: land two combos of four hits or more in a row and every hit deals 10% more damage for about ten seconds.

Can you play it on a phone or tablet?

Yes. A stick on the left moves your fighter and a button pad on the right has the attacks, Special, Supers and Sidekick, plus a separate ULTRA button. Hold the phone sideways. Some in-app browsers, such as Instagram's and TikTok's, lock rotation, so open the game in your regular browser.

Where can you play it?

Right here, in the player at the top of this page, and on the developer's own site, fridayfighters.com, where you can also install it like an app and play offline.
